Event Info

Join us at the Culver Center for a Korean musical performance by piri virtuoso and UCR visiting scholar Dr. Jeongmin Son. Enjoy a program that combines traditional Korean music with familiar melodies, and experience the unique sounds and versatility of the piri and saenghwang.

Dr. Jeongmin Son is a piri virtuoso, multi-instrumentalist, and musicologist who bridges traditional Korean music with contemporary and interdisciplinary arts. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees, as well as a Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) degree, from Seoul National University. She is a certified practitioner (Isuja) of Korea’s National Intangible Cultural Heritage, Piri Jeongak and Daechwita.

Dr. Son has presented eight solo recitals, exploring new possibilities for the piri through contemporary music and interdisciplinary collaboration. Her international career includes performances and artist residencies across Europe and the United States.

As a visiting scholar at the University of California, Riverside (UCR), Dr. Son explores the educational impact of Korean traditional music through performances, workshops, and engagement with students and the broader community.

Presented in conjunction with the exhibition Won Ju Lim: The Vast Structure of Recollection.
