Event Info

Join us for Family First Sunday on May 3 for family-friendly art activities and celebrate the opening of the Storytelling Through Photography exhibition, featuring works created by high school students in UCR ARTS workshops. Free and open to the public!

Activities:
Cyanotype Collage
Join us for a special cyanotype workshop led by UCR ARTS intern Alex Tomeo where participants will create a unique collaged image using photographic negatives and found objects. Explore the magic of this historic, camera-less photographic process as you learn each step from start to finish—from coating paper with light-sensitive chemicals to exposing your composition under UV light and developing your final print in water. Discover how this 19th-century technique transforms sunlight into stunning cyan-blue images and leave with your own handmade work of art.

Shadow Shapes & Optical Toys
Join Gluck Fellow Hannah Tishkoff in exploring early animation and optical illusion by making a simple thaumatrope (a spinning toy) inspired by 19th-century visual culture. Participants will draw two-part images that merge when spun!
